Hello all! I'll be in Spokane Oct 25th and heading west. I've been looking at river trails as they seem to be a safe bet to beat snow/cold. Focusing now on Teanaway River, but if anyone had other picks I'm open for suggestions. Thank you

West fork of the Teanaway could be nice, but you have to cross the river multiple times, which might be problematic with all the rain/snow in the forecast. The Waptus river trail is nice and long with no river fording required. Looks like it will be below the snow line this week.

The Suiattle, North Fork Sauk and Elwha are a few with trails. All are on the west side of the state though.

The Cooper river trail between Salmon La Sac and Cooper Lake has beautiful waterfalls. Trailheads at either end. Should be below the snowline.

If you're looking for a true E WA desert experience (vs. east side of the Cascades), I'd recommend Palouse Falls / Palouse River. Lots of good on / off trail exploration in and around that area. It's a bit off the direct "west from Spokane" route, but it's a worthy detour.

This is a nice Little Spokane local loop https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/little-spokane-river-natural-area-knothead-loop Ancient Lakes has some good loops too https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/ancient-lakes

Umtatum Creek is nice-ish, though I'm not sure if there's hunting going on there now... Have heard it can be busy with them in season The Gingko Petrified Forest "backcountry" hike is a nice leg stretcher while driving east - not too far from the highway, nice views over the Columbia, potential for seeing Bighorn Sheep (we saw a bunch last time we were there): hike description from wta

You can have a suburban hike and walk the paved trail along both sides of the Columbia in Wenatchee.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Tieton River Trail various trip reports posted here and at WTA. should be fabulous right now with the leaves turning. long ways from Spokane, though.

Thank you Randy! I'm considering either Copper River and Wamptus. If you had to pick one?
