Thursday's match against Wisconsin was hard fought, the Huskies just finished sets a bit better. Just now the Huskies beat the snot out of the Badgers. Sweep, hit an amazing .457 for the match. That's just ridiculous. Wisconsin is probably a far bit overrated currently (#9 in the poll), but still nice to pick up a pair of wins against them. Bajema is a monster. All 3 pin hitters were teeing off. That's it for non-conference, went 9-1, better than I would've predicted before the season started. Now on to the Pac 12 grind.

Dawgs played at Washington St. middle of the week. Won the first set, then lost the next 3 fairly handily. Strange things happen in Pullman, maybe not all that surprising. Today they are at Stanford. The 'Furd just doesn't lose at home (except against BYU earlier this year). Well...UW wiped the floor w/ the Card. 3-1 win, outblocked them, outhit them .288 to .111. Now that was a surprise I would say. After the opening weekend the Pac 12 is a big ol' mess, nobody would've picked Oregon St. to be sitting on top at 2-0. A long way to go of course, but almost everybody has picked up at least 1 loss already. Dawgs have to go on the road again next weekend to play the LA schools, but both are below par so far this season. I was hoping UW could open up that 4 game road streak to start conference play at 2-2. They should definitely be able to split next weekend's matches.

Ugh. Will the real Huskies please stand up? They stunk against Wazzu, looked like worldbeaters against Stanford, backing to playing bad again tonight. Lost in 4 sets @ USC. The 3 sets they lost they hit .067, -.059 (yes, they hit negative for a set), and .103. That's awful. Now they have to hope to beat UCLA to try to salvage the LA trip. Bruins are all alone in first place at 3-0 at the moment.

They did bounce back and beat UCLA 3-1. After 2 weeks of conference play several teams are 3-1, the Huskies are 2-2 so they are in decent shape. Finally get to play a couple matches at home against the Oregon schools.

Man, these Huskies just have no consistency, none. Got off to a really slow start Friday night against Oregon St., then found their footing and cruised to a fairly easy sweep. Really good hitting. I tried watching on tv again today but just couldn't do. Against a struggling Oregon team (1-4 in conference, 5-9 overall) they're playing poorly. Keep giving up long scoring runs. Dropped the first set and on the verge of going down 0-2. So much for returning to their home floor. This year is just going to be too frustrating with extreme up and down performances.

Older, you should have stuck with it. Dawgs rally and win the last 3 sets. WOOF!

up.gif I went for a walk, which was nice. Glad to see the Dawgs battled back and won the match. Still would like to see more consistent play, they are certainly capable of performing at a high level. That Wisconsin team they hammered a month or so ago is now sitting at 6-0 in Big 10 play and has beaten 4 ranked teams--Purdue, Penn St., Nebraska and Minnesota.

Pair of wins over the Arizona schools Friday/Sunday. Didn't look very good, but still a W. Claire Hoffman missed both matches, they are a different team without her. Next up road trip to Utah/Colorado. Utes are solid, Colorado has been struggling mightily but playing in Boulder has caused the Dawgs lots of trouble over the years. edited--Well, winning ugly is better than losing. 2-5 Arizona St. beat 5-2 Washington St. in 5 sets in Pullman just now, and 0-7 Colorado has pushed 6-1 Cal to 5 sets in Berkeley. I guess you can't take anything for granted. Arizona has 4 or 5 players out injured and had been swept I think 3 matches in a row, but they gave the Dawgs all they could handle today.

Egads. No Hoffman again tonight, and the Dawgs just aren't very good without her. Somehow took the first set against Utah, but have gotten destroyed since then. 25-13 25-17 and 23-10 in the 4th. Was 23-6 a second ago. It's hard to get beaten that badly.

Crazy night in the Pac 12. Stanford and Cal both lost. They are stilled tied for first at 7-2, but 5 teams are right behind them at 6-3 (UW, Wazzu, Utah, UCLA and USC). Nobody is running away w/ the conference title like Stanford did last year.

Huskies bounced back w/ a 3-1 win against last place Colorado. Might be of interest to some, former UW great Sanja Tomasevic is the coach at Arizona St. They were a mess when she took over but she's starting to turn things around. Currently on a 3 game winning streak and evened up their conference record at 5-5.

The standings are getting crazy. UW, UCLA and Cal are 7-3. Utah and Washington St. are both 6-3, playing each other in the 5th set right now. 6-3 USC is leading 7-2 Stanford 2-0. Very possibly will have a 6 way tie for first place after today, w/ the loser of Utah-Wazzu 1 game behind.

Sigh. Dawgs were leading 2-1 and sitting pretty at 20-15 in the 4th set. In the bag, right? Nope. Gave up a freaking 10-1 run to close the 4th, then dropped the 5th 15-11. Gave this one away.

Keeping with their theme of up and down performances, UW crushed UCLA on Sunday. I didn't watch it but stats were overwhelmingly in favor of the Dawgs. They went 2-0 against UCLA and 0-2 against USC this season, even though the Bruins appear to be the better team. Conversely the Cougs were the opposite, 0-2 against UCLA and 2-0 against USC. Shannon Crenshaw played well in the front row in both matches this weekend. It would still be ideal to get Hoffman back from injury but a good sign to see better production from Crenshaw.

Dawgs w/ a hard fought sweep against Oregon in Eugene. The Ducks' record isn't very good, but that's deceptive. They have plenty of talent, but have had some injuries and just haven't been able to put it all together this season. Hoffman was suited up. Crenshaw started again and played fairly well, but Coach Cook switched to Hoffman in the 3rd set. Hopefully she'll be able to get back up to speed quickly, nice to have added depth w/ Crenshaw showing she can contribute as well. Can't take anything for granted, but should be able to beat Oregon St on Sunday. Would be nice to pick up 2 wins this week instead of the win one lose one thing they've been doing lately. Dawgs are in a 3 tie for 2nd place (could be 4 way tie depending on outcome of Utah-USC match that is in the 5th set). 2 games back of Stanford. (off topic, but basketball season is starting now; UW women's hoops has really struggled the last 2 years, I'm hopeful they'll show at least some noticeable improvement this season; if not I think it's time to start shopping for a new coach)
