Well, at least it's a democratic republic, not a socialist one.

A socialist republic can be a democratic one in fact is is easily arguable that a socialist republic is more democratic than a capitalist one. Socialism is an economic system and concept not a political one. Democracy and Republic’s are political concepts as are oligarchy and aristocracy not economic ones. Economic and political systems are only peripherally related. You can have a socialist oligarchy and a capitalist aristocracy. In reality nothin is pure.

We're a hybrid of capitalism and socialism.

what we are is capitalism for the working stiff and institutional crony socialism for the rich. One is protected and insulated from their poor decisions/bad luck by the government and the other is one emergency room visit away from being bankrupt and living in the street, thus making them the example of what happens if you don't toe the line...that is why there is no solution to the homeless crisis - they are getting their just rewards in our "capitalist" system. Not everyone can win, so don't be a loser or this is your fate...laying on the sidewalk in a puddle of vomit.
And not getting paid when the insulated and protected file for bankruptcy because they failed, even with supposed billions in the bank to cover their losses. What is up with that? No taste for the gamble of capitalism? W/O insurance that their $$$ is safe they won't take the risk? That doesn't sound like a free market capitalist way of thinking.

On the contrary, everyone can win in capitalism, and does.. if they so choose, by definition. Every trade not involving coercion by the seller, is win/win from first principles.
Using the intentionally flawed definition of capitalist results put forth by those who oppose it, isn't a defensible position because it doesn't accurately represent the basics argued by proponents themselves.
You're right about socialism for some of the rich, which indeed should be ended and the power to grant it, removed from govt. You're correct many of the biggest buisnesses are not following valid free market ideals. This needs to end, not merely make things worse by arguing for more centralization to make things 'equal'. You fix things by ending the problem, not expanding it.
Few are getting their 'just rewards' on the street, and I don't know of anyone who argues that except for folks making strawman arguments.
