This is how it always goes, sparse like the leaves on a maple in November until a few days before the cutoff, then a deluge of incredible photography. People like being fashionably late.

A survey from the first year of the contest, 2009, showed the top two reasons why people didn’t enter the contest were (1) What contest? (28%) and (2) My photos are only good enough for the Photo of the Day thread. (24%).
Tied for third place were (3) I’m still working on it and hope to submit them before the deadline. (11%) and (3) My photos are worth millions and your prizes are lame. (11%)
I really like the opportunity to see the photos that other NWHikers have taken throughout the year, even if they are not top contenders. If they are worried about spotlighting a favorite area, they can provide a discreet label or no label at all.

I note that more photos show up every day. A few of the categories are already getting hard to choose.
I am still waiting for more of the great larch photos I've admired in October 2019 trip reports to show up in "October," which is still (as of noon today) pretty lean.

Is the spiky peak in November Rainier?
I also like the vine maple, Acer circinatum, which is new to me.
Some great scenics and Milky Ways! Is there a forest floor with mushrooms waiting to be posted?

Looks like Sloan.
Good to see a few more entries tonight, and some good ones at that! Keep 'em coming!

awilsondc,
Thanks! As a New Englander displaced to the Midwest, I find much of PNW novel, and I don't recognize major landmarks.
The mounting contributions to the Calendar thread help thicken the picture. There is such a visual bounty at hand.

It would be fun to have a "guess the winners" thread, but that would probably unduly influence the results.

Hopefully there will be more posted before tomorrow night. But I already see very difficult choices ahead--so many great photographers on this forum!

A bunch came in last night. Obviously the voting choices will be difficult! Just looking at the cover submissions is frustrating--I want to pick all of them! And who knows what will be posted in the next (final) 12 hours!
A big shout out to all you amazing photographers out there!

I'll remove mine from any images that might end up selected for the calendar when providing a high resolution version (Tom's instructions didn't make it seem like I needed to take the step of doing this for these submissions).

Yeah, it's fine for the voting sample if you are worried about someone steeling your pitchers. That said I think it could hurt voting chances if you have an obtrusive watermark. Also better if people vote based on photo without being biased by credit on photo.

Not so much worried as lazy to be honest. These were what I have already posted to an online account from which I can easily link. So many pictures, so little time :-)

I'm going to leave submissions open for another 24 hours to give everyone time to check submissions and make sure everything is where is should be.
