Eric and I followed the weather to the Mount St. Helens area for a few peaks. First we hiked the Goat Mountain trail to Middle and Main Goat. Next Eric suggested Bismarck, a nice quick peak near the junction of NF-99 and NF-26. We thought Bismarck had better views than Goat. On the way out we walked the road up Huffaker and made it back to Randle before dark. Overall, not a bad day for late November.
I climbed Goat a few years back. It was memorable for a couple reasons. First, I was wearing a new pair of boots straight out of the box. You know how that can go. But more significantly, on the way down from the summit I ran into a young couple on horseback. We exchanged greetings the guy cracks open a beer and asks me if I would like one. I turned him down thinking, dude it's like 9 in the morning. Not five minutes down the trail and I was wishing I'd have said yes to the beer.
Looks like you made the best of the crummy weather this weekend. Nice trip, thanks for posting!
He is going to surprise daughter Sahale on Christmas morning. Just has to dye it white ...oh, and stick a big pillow under his shirt to increase the jolliness factor.
