It's December 6, and Highway 20 is still open. The forecast for places I normally ski shows rain coming. It's been getting cold, but almost every time there's precipitation it warms up just enough to come down as rain.

47 degrees in Bellingham today and 42 at Heather Meadows. What’s happened to the adiabatic lapse rate? Isn’t rule of thumb 3 degrees per 1000’?

I did have decent snow on Bessemer last weekend. Could have used shoes but there were tracks... slush now though, whatever is left.

My birthday is the 21st, I have a tradition of celebrating it on a ski trail in the Methow. I'm starting to worry that won't be possible this year.

If you're willing to go a bit further north than the Methow, I've heard good things about Silver Star in B.C. The XC trails have been open almost a month now. In late/low snow years here, the trek north to Apex and Big White has been worth it for downhill.

Great. As an agnostic I was surprised on how popular that strong was.

Washington is running only about 2/7 of normal snowfall for this week. Looks like all our snow is in the Sierras. Oregon is running about normal.

I'm thinking about driving as far up towards Harts Pass as I can and then skiing from there. I'd much rather be on groomed trails, but it's not looking good.

It looks like there will be 40-60" of new snow the next several days. There will likely be some stability concerns immediately above 5000' because of a crust and old snow layers. So, watch www.NWAC.US
