I knew there was something good about being retired. You can take advantage of nice fall weather and head to the mountains.
I went to Royal Basin on 10-31 and 11-1. It was very cold, the nights are very long and it was very beautiful. If you are looking for solitude this is the time of year to go. You can find solitude even in places like Royal Basin and Flapjack Lakes that are over run with people in the summer time.
Talk about dry, the rhodedendrons along the trail were looking pretty sad. The leaves were all droopy.
Two weeks ago when I spent 3 days in the Mt. Gladys area it was like summertime temperatures but not this time.

Yes there was very little wind for which I was thankful. It was actually comfortable in the sun but in the shade it was like going into a freezer.
Michael, have you been in the Upper Dungeness area yet?. After the Royal Basin Trail branches off from the Dungeness Trail it follows close by Royal Creek for awhile. You might be able to get some good river shots there.
