I wanted to put in a good word for these folks. Forgive me if this is common knowledge, I'm late to the party when it comes to skiing. This is the best place to buy XC skis.
Their policy is to let people try gear on the trails before deciding on it. And their prices are competitive with anyone.
The Methow has more groomed trail than the rest of the state combined, everything from flat and gentle rolling hills to steep and narrow trails with sharp turns. Much better than shopping at REI and then going to Cabin Creek.
I bought my first skis there. They let me demo a couple different skis, and I got a pair I loved because of it.
Methow Cycle and Sport has worked on our bikes. We call them ahead and bring over bikes and they work on it while we wander around. Their rates are what I'd call reasonable.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Goats Beard is in Mazama, they have a new storefront. I haven't had occasion to shop there. Methow Cycle and Sport is on the edge of town next to the red barn, across from the winery and cider house. They're great people, they sell and rent good bikes, they're great mechanics, and they rent skis. I bought my race wheels from them. Winthrop Mountain Sports is a different place than either of those, downtown, near Rocking Horse.
