With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore 'Twas the day before Christmas, we had a mountain to climb To the first trail junction, we all made good time The route went off trail, at the final switchback From this point on, we would not turn back As we climbed higher, the slope became steeper As we kept going, the snow got much deeper The postholing started, so on went the snowshoes But as we kept climbing, we got improving views When what through our sweat-glistened eyes should appear? A pointy white summit, so shiny and near Now! Beavon, Now! Burton, Now! Dyson, Now! Tom To the top we raced, yelling, Come on! come on! We arrived at the summit, of the peak called West Granite There was no better spot on the entire planet We quickly took pictures of all nearby hills And put on some layers, before we got chills Our lunches were eaten, to fill all our tummies Hot drinks were consumed, we were not big dummies But soon we descended, we did not dare long linger Some feeling came back, to my frozen ring finger The drive back to town, went by all too quickly The heat was set high, no need to get sickly, I shouted to my partners as I drove out of sight, Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good night

Nice poetry and nice outing. No wonder there are so many rescues on Mount Pilchuck!

Merry Christmas Tom and thanks to you all for breaking trail! I ran right into your path today, almost immediately after putting on my snowshoes. Came down the west ridge, which was a little tedious because the route crosses or skirts boulder fields in a few places, and the boulder fields aren’t filled in yet. Maybe after this next dump of snow it will be in better shape.
