sometime ago when I was still hiking the canyon creek/mill creek area I came across a strange looking rock.....hike to mill creek but just before the last turn in the trail and the bridge,, make a left turn down an older trail to canyon creek. downstream you should see a large brown rock with sea shells embedded in it.

I think you mean Milk Creek/Canyon Creek? If so that is not very far from Lime Ridge. The geology there would be spelled out in Crowder and Tabor Routes and Rocks.

Ok, so you have it right. I know that Canyon Creek but not Mill Creek. Rock in that area ought to be a hodgepodge because of Crater and Jack. The Beckey Red guidebook should describe the geology in that area. There are many significant peaks.

Sounds similar to a lot of the rock on Slate Peak with the seashell fossils.
