If there's any chance of rain in the forecast, I'd suggest taking a tarp to cover your tent... It can rain a lot in a short period of time and drench the fanciest of tents.
You need a Discover Pass to park at the trail head (because the trailhead is on DNR-managed state land), or to camp at the DNR campground that is a couple miles before the trailhead. There is a self-register box for camping in the park that is located at the park boundary about a half mile up the trail.
