He starred in a lot of movies. Those which are the most immediately recognized were not necessarily his best work. Two of my favorites, rather obscure but both great cinema: Lonely Are the Brave (1962)
Ace in the Hole (aka The Big Carnival) (1951) (full movie) https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1ymyej

For sure, to live a quality life until age 103 is amazing! Wasn't there a movie a few years ago featuring 4 generations of Douglas'?

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Probably forgotten, now, is that this movie - which I haven’t seen - is based a novel by Ed Abbey ‘The Brave Cowboy’. A pretty decent read, although I read it a long time ago. And screenplay was by another great of that era - Dalton Trumbo! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lonely_Are_the_Brave. Our idols continue to fall...

So long Mr Douglas, you were a spectacular actor who gave us so much.
