As I was driving back from snowshoeing near White Pass on Sunday, I saw a beautiful black dog wandering up the north side of Highway 12 about 0.5 mile SW of La Wis Wis campground. He looked too healthy to be a stray, so I made a U turn at FS 1270 to go back and get him. By the time I returned, he was gone. I suspect he went back over the north guardrail and down toward the river. For whatever reason, I haven't been able to stop thinking about him since Sunday night. This morning, I stumbled upon a post online indicating that his owner, Ian, is looking for him. The dog's name is Kane. I'll post contact info once I find it. Please keep an eye out for him if you head out anywhere between Packwood and White Pass. The last picture below is where I saw him. Note: not interested in discussions about off leash dogs, etc., so don't start any of that here.

This is awesome fourteen410--that you would take this on. Very kind-hearted and responsible of you. I hope the owner and dog are reunited soon. ~z

Glad Kane is safe -- let Ian know that he could get a substantial ticket taking Kane back to the Steven's Van Trump Memorial in Mt Rainier Park. Ten years ago I got a $75 ticket from a ranger for taking my dog skiing with me at Chinook pass in the spring -- just inside the park boundary and the ground had several feet of snow -- I think the ranger could have written me a much bigger ticket -- but I was respectful and apologetic and less than a 1/2 mile from the USFS parking lot east of the pass where I could parked and skied with her without breaking any rules.

Yay! for once, a good outcome. biggrin.gif up.gif We had one or two other missing dog post put up on NWH last year, and I'm not sure we ever heard about the outcomes.
