There's hope yet that I can still ski and hike into the future: Elevate A robotic exoskeleton designed to enhance your skiing experience. Elevate’s innovative technology supports your quads and knees so you can spend more time doing what you love.

I would wonder among other things, how much does it weigh? Having stuff wrapped around your legs and a pack on your back seems like it would create some awkwardness... besides disrupting one’s stylish attire.... and it doesn’t help with moguls or speed?

When I grow up I wanna play.

Thanks for the link. Looks interesting. If they get something set up at Crystal I think I would give it a try.

Amazon Bros and Softies only
Quote:
Join the Elevate 2020 purchase list and save $1500. Want to take Elevate home? Pre-order by March 1st and save 30% off MSRP.
If I'm interpreting that correctly (and it could be marketing speak and completely misleading) it sounds like the 30% off purchase price is $1500 -- so full price would be $5000

They have a tacticool military one too. For waging war against humanity. And a medical one, for when you survive a robot attack.

Found this in their FAQs: How Heavy is the Elevate Ski Exoskeleton? The Elevate ski exoskeleton straps directly to your legs and ski boots, so when powered on you do not feel the weight of the device. The exoskeleton weighs similar to a standard knee brace. The legs weigh about 3 pounds each but you will not notice any weight because of the amount of weight elevate offloads, which outweighs the weight of actual exoskeleton. How Heavy is the Powerpack? The powerpack weighs similar to a standard day pack (roughly 10lbs).

Nature exists with a stark indifference to humans' situation.

This is actually a valid concern. When they make one that will allow "hikers" to carry 80lb packs and jog along at 5 miles per hour with minimal effort will they be excluded from wilderness?

Not going to feel 3 lbs on ea. leg and 10 lbs on the back? I don’t think so. Not to say it might not have an application but that’s a lot of extra weight skiing ! Yikes!

When I grow up I wanna play.

So, it's primarily aimed at skiers? $5000 is a lot of dough. My version of that device, on my multiple short hikes a week, is a crutch. No motor but it does lower my ankle pain level! My only knee issue, after knee replacement many years ago, is reduced flexion. I had to quit cycling.

That depends upon folks like those who object to electric bikes on bike trails. After all, the presence of the hardware and it's silence may damage someone else's experience.

Or lead to excess resource use and damage by making access easier and faster, and thus turning backcountry into frontcountry...
