Discovered that I acquired a tick today, either from the Greg Ball Trail, where I did sit down to take pictures, or the Fourth of July Creek Trail up the Icicle on Tuesday, maybe rode home in my rain gear. Any guesses which location it came from?

The icicle would be my guess based on probability. 99% of my tick encounters have been up the icicle, or climbing in the tumwater. I had one come home with me in my hat. Fell out while I was eating dinner at the diner. I didn't think they where that common on the west side, but Last year we did find a tick on our dog that we are quite positive came from our yard.

I've had them as early as Feb in The Teanaway. My guess is The Icicle too. A warm day will bring them out.

It makes the most sense that I brought it home from the Icicle Tuesday, because it was in the mid- fifties that day and it was actually snowing yesterday at Wallace when I sat down to take a picture, but do ticks live that long in your clothes?

I've found living ticks in my car or pack maybe a week after the last time I'd been out.

They will probably be some of the last living things on the planet...

I do a annual snowshoe hike up in the Leavenworth area in early spring. I get ticks every time

Ticks can wait on a blade of grass for billions of years until something warm blooded walks by.
How far can you drive up the Icicle? Last year people were skiing at Sleeping Lady until mid April!

We parked where the snowmobiles line up, just a little past Eightmile Road. There was a group of climbers who had just returned from climbing Colchuck parked there also. We assumed that was as far as you could drive, but as we walked up to the Fourth of July Creek trailhead, we realized that we could have driven the Tacoma. Just have to drive over a little snow berm, as of last Tuesday anyway. Will try to get up a little trip report when I have time.

We had friends hiking towards Red Top pick up ticks on their dogs a week or two ago. So... yup. It begins again.
