My favorite area in Joshua Tree National Park is the "Wonderland of Rocks". Over the last 5 years I've done more than 20 hike/scrambles in the wonderland and this one is by far my favorite so far.
My photo descriptions tell the story from beginning to end.

Always in admiration and envy of technical climbers who tackled the impressive walls of the Astro Dome, I never pictured my self on its summit.
Two climbers who had just reached the flat summit area were startled to be greeted by seniors without climbing gear.
After climbing there for years, they had never heard of a back door scramble route.
Thanks to Ragman we discovered yet another Joshua Tree Gem.
Time for a break

High consequence catwalk, steep drop to the left and all the way drop off the Astro Dome to the right. Photo, courtesy of Ragman
That looks really fun. Ragman has published a bunch of great Joshua Tree reports but I filed this one away in case I ever find myself in the neighborhood.
