^^^ The link Schroder posted originated in the Wa Post. Just days earlier, WaPo put up this guy's bone-headed opinion piece: Don't cancel the outdoors. All the writer's points are ... beside the point.

I have a cousin complaining about people visiting their vacation places in Chelan. Last week made a trip to urban Sno County. Had to check up on their vacation place. Yep.

To be fair -- don't most "locals" complain about "tourons" during normal times -- even while working constructing 2nd homes or other services for "city-folks".
When we were caught in the closing of State Parks in Utah last month we went to a small grocery store in Hanksville. The owner was so happy to see us she showed us through the store and helped us find unusual items and thanked us profusely.

I don't think it's necessarily the businesses that are complaining. But I get the concern. At the same time I wonder if those in the small towns voicing these concerns ever drive beyond their most immediate small town retail establishments in order to patronize larger town businesses. You don't need to shop at Costco or Walmart, nor do you need those specialty / boutique items that are probably only found in larger towns. The line between nice-to-have and need-to-have should be fairly obvious.
