Thanks for the info about that gate! Are there interesting hiking opportunities or views beyond that gate? And don't forget that not all Vietnam vets are nuts! Just some of us--and we are nuts for the Middle Fork!

I hope they fix the road by summer. I’m looking forward to biking to the end and getting back up the Dutch Miller after so many years.

Last weekend the DNR moved the Middle Fork road closure back to Valley Camp. On the weekend officers were posted at the closure to enforce it. All DNR land and trails are closed, so don't park before the closure and walk in.

That made me change my plans for the day (I was going to do some solo weeding on USFS land). I thought I'd check out the other area trailheads to see what the closures looked like.

Then decided to drive up the North Fork. I hadn't been up that way since last summer.

Thanks for the North Fork information Puzzlemeister. I was wondering about that.

I was wondering about the N fork as well. Gee, that vehicle sh##-show really gives me pause about parking anywhere up that road. That might keep away people as well as any gate!!

Thanks for the update puzzlr. Whoa--that car destruction. To think of the malice of those individuals is unsettling to say the least.

Some of my favorite views of Mt. Si are in this area. Thanks, ~z

Tinkham Road is closed? Washouts and trees? Noticed this several weeks or months ago, just too lazy to do a search here.

I think Tinkham road always closes for the winter, but I wouldn't be surprised if it stayed closed longer to keep people from camping up there.

Well said. The MFK is fairly soft these days.

The road can be followed to Gifford Creek and it is apparently a BW2-4 canyon. Passable but hard and long to get to the lakes, I'd rather go in via granite creek. There's a geocache along it. There's also a route up Russian buttes described by ??? that takes an avalanche chute up the front of the faces. I can't find the text but it was described as impossible seeming until you were right at it. Maybe a pitch or sever of protection needed also. I was considering exploring that area more since the landslide. it doesn't look particularly promising though.
