Sounds like Pierce County worked faster than I expected and repaired the washout on the Carbon River access road near the junction with Mowich Lake Road and has reopened
https://www.piercecountywa.gov/6708/Fairfax-washout
The good news is that you can get to the information center.
The bad news is that they haven't fixed the next washout, which is next to the FS 7810 bridge. Which means a bit more road walking to get to Ipsut Creek and other lovely places in the park.
Also heard that 7810 was pretty damaged not far beyond the bridge-- no timeline for when the Forest Service will be able to fix that, so access to Summit Lake and Bearhead will be tough this year-- add about 6-7 miles of road walking to that trip.
On the other hand, this may give Summit a year or so to recover from being "overloved"...

I don't understand how the road by itself doesn't keep Summit from being overloved. Easily one of the top 3 worst trailhead roads in the state.

Wow that was fast. I expected that section to be closed for most of the summer.

^ I believe there are a few inholders upstream of the washout location.

The repair looks great. I checked it out today on the way to a bike-n-hike up the carbon. I came home with 4 ticks crawling on my skin...YIKES.

The only time in years (outside of E. WA) that I've picked up ticks has been on Mt. Florence. I was surprised, totally unexpected - 4 of them, racing up my leg. Ugh.

Kascadia, the last time I had a tick on me was from eastern OR in the mid 90s. Considering all the brush thrashing I have done its surprising I don't find more on me...or maybe they don't like my skin for some reason and just come and go without me ever knowing. Perhaps all the elk traffic in the area I was in today was the reason. I did follow the game trails.

If that was in fact about today, than it must have been blocked after you cross the carbon on the big cement bridge ( heading towards summit lake ). I was able to drive to and park right by the second washout ( which is not fixed ).

That is strange.

Private landowner is logging and they put up gate, heard secondhand, write FS and complain. Also ticks always at glacier overlook. Have had up to 9 ticks after hanging up there

Can confirm the ticks at the glacier terminus. Found 2 that day after chilling by the bridge. Much more sketchy than the cinnamon bear that hangs in the area. He’s ok.

While the gate on 7810 is probably not legit, it won't make a lot of difference, as the road is washed out approx 1 mile up (where the first big gully and waterfall are)... so it's going to be a road walk for a while...

Yup. The post on WTA is by a person who actually owns property up at Surprise Lake (I didn't realize there was private land up there). So even if the upper road doesn't get fixed, the lower section will be better than it was.
