Took a little ride up to Lake Quinault area this morning. The town was empty and the lodge door handles are wrapped in caution tape. The Fletcher Canyon trailhead has a closed sign so I parked in a pullout on south shore road. After 5 weeks of walking old roads and trails through scrappy 3rd+ growth forest around Seabrook, I had sensory overload on this short hike - the Quinault felt, looked, sounded and SMELLED so amazing and alive. Saw zero people.

Beautiful pics. Did you go under that dang tree?

Thanks, there's a well-worn path up and around the log now so no need to do the limbo.

Went up to my family’s cabin today on Camano Island. Close to gale force winds stirred up the sand as the tide came in and created a beautiful mosaic of colors.

Beautiful day on Keechelus 5/10/20 despite the 15+ mph gusts making for some fun rollers while changing direction kneeling on a board.... Intense upper body workout!

Sams Dirty Ridge. Two days of nice warm winds straight in, grass still green, sweet.
Paragliders, social distancing is the norm.

Still trying to stay in the neighborhood so went up to the Colonel Bob wilderness again on Friday. I wasn't sure whether I was going to the summit or the lookout site until I hit the saddle in between. It was hot and the lookout site was closer!
No one other cars in the vicinity of Pete's Creek TH when I arrived around 8am. The trailhead was not signed closed but it's clearly "developed" (bathroom, locked) so I parked in a pullout about 0.25 mi away. Crossed paths with a trio of backpackers hiking out just above the junction with the Col Bob trail - they must have come up from the Quinault side. No other people all day.
Snow was patchy from about 3000' to 3200' and constant above that. I followed the trail/footprints of the other 3 hikers to about 4000', then turned north and went straight up to the saddle on steep, hard snow to avoid a long switchback in the trail. No snowshoes necessary but was glad to have an ice axe. The lookout site is melted out and has excellent views of the Olympics from Mt Tom to Mt Washington, Lake Quinault, the Pacific, and several volcanoes in the distance. Really nice early season day trip!

Dirtyface Benchmark, Peak, and Lookout site. Ran into none other than Matt and crew, who gave us critical route details (weren't originally planning all that). Really nice day. Axe/boots needed, crampons optional.

A hike-a-bike out of North Bend. Mine Creek to Hall Creek on two separate days 5/24+25th. Ride covered paved, gravel and unimproved. Hard earned views.
From the beginning...
Stumps in the road bed...
Views...
Rough going...
Creek ford...
Out on a limb...
End of the line...
Return rest stop...
Almost home...
Stats for two separate days: 8/ 14 miles and 1,300/2,600 elevation gain

Davis peak near Cle Elum lake yesterday -
Trail is snow-free for the first couple miles, then intermittent snow up to the ridge at 5800' The ridge is a bit corniced but I could see faint footprints below from a previous party, and they led me to a spot where I could cut a step and descend easily. Then it was short climb up to the lookout site. The trail from the LO site to the middle summit is ~50% melted out. Great views of the Snoqualmie crest and ALW from there! Didn't venture to the north summit. Used ice axe briefly, no other gear required.

I thought maybe the light colored thing in the circle could be a missing piece from Dirty Harry's collection but maybe just a rectangular rock?
