It's open with a slight gap between the rocks to drive through. I didnt go through it but you can clearly make it through.

The road is open and there's no snow all the way to the parking lot. The snow starts just passed the trailhead, per trip reports on WTA.

If you haven't been on this road in recent years, it's pretty dilapidated with huge potholes. High clearance vehicles recommended. Micro spikes and poles recommended for the trail.

Yes, that road is brutal, especially the first 3rd prior to the Heather Lake TH...even riding my dual sport honda up that road was a pita.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Anyone have inside info on why they don't regrade this road? I believe the road itself is on NF land and they even have a video on their website about grading forest roads often. It doesn't look like a very expensive process and needs a grading machine, roller and water truck. Unless it's a crude way of keeping the crowds away although not even the roughest roads can stop a Prius biggrin.gif

It's still drivable with pretty much any vehicle as long as you don't mind travelling at a snails pace.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.
