I heard indirectly from a friend that was organizing an annual bike ride from Colonial Creek to Mazama and back that it's opening up on Tuesday. The road is currently clear of snow but the gates are still up and they've said they will turn any bikers around in Newhalem. The weather will cool off and get rainy just in time for the opening.

It is opening, but don't go. This is advice from the Cascade Loop or whatever promoter's facebook announcement. Sooooo we have a little news. BUT before we give you said news we need to ask a favor of you. Before you think of how insanely bad you want to take that road trip could you do us one really big favor and hit pause? I know it’s weird that a scenic byway is asking you to wait before traveling but we just reallllllly have to. Aside from the fact that the Governor has told us we all need to stay home right now, there is more at stake. In a nutshell, those adorable small communities that we all love so much all tucked in those beautiful mountains just aren’t equipped to welcome guests yet. Lodging including camping is not open yet, many public spaces and federal lands are not open and most businesses aren’t ready to welcome the traveling public yet either. Soooo if you love the Loop like we do, let’s think of the impact we could have in these communities ahead of our desire to visit—just for now. We 100% promise that we’ll tell you when the time is right for you to visit. Realllly want to help these awesome folks out? Prepay for your visit through gift cards and certificates on showwalove.com. And oh yeah, by the way, the North Cascades Highway is opening today. Quietly. Okanogan County is experiencing an uptick in Covid cases. We went for a week with none, then there were two on Friday, and yesterday four. Stay home please.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

This is absolutely silly - the idea that we cannot drive over the N. cascades hwy due to the Corona virus. .I will pack a lunch, and drive it thank you. And I will not endanger anyone. "Aside from the fact that the Governor has told us we all need to stay home right now," - seriously? you take advice from a political hack who tells people in Omak lake they cannot go fish, because there is a high level of Covid cases in King county ?

Partial Quote from Joseph: you take advice from a political hack who tells people in Omak lake they cannot go fish, because there is a high level of Covid cases in King county ? Joseph, Omak Lake is controlled by the Colville tribes. It is on THEIR land. They closed off all their lands to non tribal members about the same time the shut down began. They may open up their casino next week. I suggest you read up on the history of various pandemics. Your attitude, when multiplied, leads to infections spreading. However, we've had 6 new cases in the last three days here. Maybe the danger would be to you?

For a while, they were leading in area cases of Covid. Heard they had two more but in another county. I have not even gone on a county road that I like to bike ride on, because it is on their land. Don't want to look like I don't give a hoot.

Joseph revealed who he is with the “political hack” comment, a truly stupid remark. The governor is “political”, oh the horror! And hack is what someone says when they are trying to slander someone with a vague accusation that could never be proven or disproven. Joseph’s mother should be horrified at the person her son turned out to be.

Dude I was thinking of Omak lake off the top of my head. Okay, how about Alta Lake? Does that change things? We all have our opinions. I choose not to be frozen by fear. Should people in Alta Lake be afraid to go out because of what is happening in King Co? No, they shouldn't.

Let me help you Slugman: when a politician selectively targets industries to punish them for not supporting his previous election candidate, he is a hack, or worse. Moreover, politicians sometimes deserve such terms and they are fair game for criticism. It is unfortunate that you apparently have decided to engage in a personal attack on me. Now, get back under your bed !

To Joseph, I don't call it fear, I call it respecting other people and trying like hell not to spread Covid around. Read some history. We're repeating it. Or you are. Time will tell. I I listen to the health experts, not "influencers". Are you a health expert or professional?

Perhaps the Methow should adopt a policy like Gunnison Colorado during the 1918 pandemic. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/01/gunnison-colorado-the-town-that-dodged-the-1918-spanish-flu-pandemic

what history ? Be specific. And I refuse to participate in fear mongering. I was responding to a previous poster who demanded that everyone stay at home and not drive over the north cascades highway due to the corona virus !! Now tell me the "health expert" who says that driving over a mountain pass in the north cascades will spread the virus. I'll wait.

As long as you stay in your car, no problem. But if stop to buy gas and sundries at a convenience store and don't bother to practice social distancing because you feel fine, yep there is a risk of transmission. Many people have very mild or no symptoms, but are shedding virus unknowingly. My neighbor was in Hawaii in early March, but during flight back, he started feeling crappy, nothing severe. He was tested and the results were positive, he was unknowingly spreading for several days, including on his return flight. Anyway all you are doing is telling everyone that it's all about you and your right to do whatever you want regardless of what impact it could have on others. Glad my kids grew out of that phase by high school. What's your excuse for still thinking like a middle schooler?
