Peaceful bird and flower area. Did the easy Rat Creek Ridge/Canyon Crest loop.

Curiosity got the best of me based on fourteen410's TR about the closure of private property last year. https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8029355&highlight=mountain+home I headed over to the border of the Land Trust property, but I couldn't tell if the owner had changed his mind or begrudged users opened this part with just a blank piece of plywood on the tree. Oh well, still plenty to explore up there. Nine cars when I got back to the parking area was the most I had ever seen up there.

Thanks for the update on this. I wonder if someone talked to the owner, or whether they will just come back and build a new barricade. If there is not a public easement across this property I would sure like to know why!

I was up there about 2 weeks ago. This is what barrier (about 1 mi from kiosk) looked like then. It was done with machinery so I figured they were going to log and were just keeping people out while they were logging. But, after reading trip report you linked, it looks like owner is just a schmuck. The trails on what is now his land were long established, there was even signage and they were on some maps. You would think this would constitute a case of adverse possession (?), but I ain't no lawyer, and it looks like Land Trust people don't think so since they deleted it from their map.

Considering the way folks treat things these days, I wouldn't be so quick to call him a schmuck.
