I'll try to remember the location of this. Although the facebook group is not about such things, some people post their outrage, and ignorance on it. One poster was mad because people who had no symptoms should be allowed to do anything they wanted to do. The same person was also convinced that quarantining people would be done for political purposes. She gave advice on how to not answer your door when the evil people came by to test you for the virus and then lock you up.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Thank you very much for sharing it. |
You're welcome graywolf. 'Glad you saw it.
And here's an article from NPR that's on a similar topic. Some here may find this also useful.--
From Camping To Dining Out: Here's How Experts Rate The Risks Of 14 Summer Activities May 23, 20201:55 PM ET
Heard on Morning Edition
Note: this is a fairly easy read and there is also a six minute audio that accompanies the article. Remember this is a dynamic situation. We learn new things all the time about this virus and some information is bound to change as we continue down this road. I like how it talks about doing activities with trusted friends/associates who have the same values you do about social distancing and staying safe in order to control/reduce risk as much as possible. ~z
Here's a few quotes from the article:
... The urge to get out and enjoy the summer is real. But what's safe? We asked a panel of infectious disease and public health experts to rate the risk of summer activities, from backyard gatherings to a day at the pool to sharing a vacation house with another household.
One big warning: Your personal risk depends on your age and health, the prevalence of the virus in your area and the precautions you take during any of these activities. Also, many areas continue to restrict the activities described here, so check your local laws.
And there's no such thing as a zero-risk outing right now. As states begin allowing businesses and public areas to reopen, decisions about what's safe will be up to individuals. It can help to think through the risks the way the experts do.
"We can think of transmission risk with a simple phrase: time, space, people, place," explains Dr. William Miller, an epidemiologist at Ohio State University. (emphasis mine, ~z)
Here's his rule of thumb: The more time you spend and the closer in space you are to any infected people, the higher your risk. Interacting with more people raises your risk, and indoor places are riskier than outdoors.
...
Our experts shared their thoughts via phone and email interviews. (See link above for the article and audio.)

An important message about opposing views.
From the article: "But—and this is a very, very big BUT—not all opposing views are equal. Recognizing the difference between scientific (worthy of debate, though often still incorrect over time) claims and pseudoscientific (not worthy of debate, as the very foundations on which they sit are not pulled from the disciple of science or the scientific method) claims is crucial and a failure to do so makes the following exercise futile."

My weekly Walmarche report:
I went in to do shopping this morning and noticed fewer people wearing masks than the last time. I'm wondering if the hate radio folks are promoting this?

Another great article from NPR on success stories around the world: Some Countries Have Brought New Cases Down To Nearly Zero. How'd They Do It? The article includes an interactive chart and a short audio link. The star of the line-up is New Zealand.
Quote: Perhaps the greatest success story is New Zealand, which has stopped local transmission and has a plan to completely eliminate the virus from its territory.
...
But it wasn't just scientists who led the charge. Wiles — and many other New Zealanders — give much of the credit for their country's success to the swift and decisive leadership of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in March.
"Our prime minister made the decision that she did not want what was happening in Italy to happen in New Zealand," says Wiles. In mid-March as cases were exploding in Italy and Spain, Ardern ordered anyone entering New Zealand into quarantine. At that point the country had confirmed just 6 cases. A few days later on March 19, Ardern shutdown travel to the country, essentially banning all foreigners from entering the island nation of 4.8 million.
She took to the national airwaves to explain a four-stage lockdown system that New Zealand would use to confront the health crisis. "I'm speaking to all New Zealanders today to give you as much certainty and clarity as we can as we fight COVID-19," she said in a nationally televised address on March 21.
...
...she called on New Zealanders to confront this crisis by protecting their fellow citizens.
"She talked over and over about us being a team of five million and that we all do our part to break these chains of transmission and to eliminate the virus," Wiles says. "I think that has been one of the really crucial things — everybody knowing how they had to behave and that they were behaving for the good of everybody." (emphasis mine)
Much more in the article about South Korea, Viet Nam, Taiwan, and Germany. ~z

There is video of The Windmill Restaurant in Wenatchee opening up today. Patriotic folks waving flags and signs. Horns honking. Talk about freedom etc.
It closed down again quickly because the state threatened to take away their liquor license. So much for liberty and sacrifice!

Well it will be interesting to see what actually happens. If COVID-19 follows the pattern the 1918 virus did -- the 2nd wave will peak in late October, primarily kill people in the 20 to 60 age range and kill about 2 million Americans -- right before election day.
COVID-19 may follow a different pattern -- perhaps Trump is gambling that the 2nd wave won't really build until after election day.

Did you pass statistics in college? If not you could easily be confused.
The DOH is reporting that 5 deaths out of 1,078 are missatributed, likely there are some additional miscategorized deaths. But even if it is 10 times that number it doesn't really change the severity of the outbreak.
In some other states the DOH is only reporting deaths as COVID-19 related when the deceased had a positive COVID-19 test. However this method undercounts the deaths as when someone dies in their home or comes into the ER already in distress they don't administer a test to tell them what is already obvious.

How does government and the corporate interests to which it tapdances benefit from crippling the economy?
