Took the mountain bikes out to the Shaser Creek area this afternoon. The road was in excellent condition for a ride. The afternoon heat made the uphill trek quite the grunt, so we were stoked to finally reach the serpentine saddle. We stashed our bikes and headed up to Serpentine Hill. The hike up was relatively short but the multiple false summits played tricks on us. Finally hit the true summit and signed the register - saw some familiar names. Refueled on the false summit before returning to the bikes. The ride down was fast and amazing. Pebbles enjoyed chasing our bikes. Back at the car around 4:30pm, followed by a long foot soak in the creek before heading home. Didn't see another soul all day. Good times
Interesting geology and fabulous flowers!
I just learned the difference between bitterroot (Lewisia rediviva...left) and mountain rose (Lewisia tweedyi...right). You saw both!
Bitterroot is white or rose, with pencil- shaped fleshy leaves; mountain rose is yellowish or salmon with large rosette of spoon- shaped fleshy leaves.

I was actually wondering what the difference was - appreciate the insight!
