For complex routes (short or long), bicyclists often use Cue Sheets.
Often abbreviated versions of:
Go 1 mile, turn left on ABC street.
Continue 2 miles, turn Right on DEF bikeway
Continue 3 miles, bear left onto XYZ Street
Immediately turn Right onto XYZ Lane
Etc. The Ride with GPS site will even generate them for you.
What's the hiking name? "Guide" suggests more details about the things you might see along the way. "Directions" suggests how to get to the trailhead. "Instructions", "Turns", "Route"? Or just Cue Sheet--jargon, but accurate.
IME: Route description. A great example of a complex route description is the text in the Cascade Alpine Guide Volume I for the South Route of Mtn Garfield. It also includes a detailed sketch.
Bike route cue sheets are archaic these days as RideWithGPS will call out instructions as you ride and beep pleasant tones when you are on route and beep unpleasant tones when you get off route.
