That is a clear and reasoned statement of your philosophy and style. Thanks.
Continue to be careful as you enjoy the alpine. Hopefully you will become old and bold like Fred.
You're very welcome. I do try to be careful, though, as we all know, there is inherent risk invovled. I'm certain that I'll be far less bold than Sir Beckey as we age.
I truly do appreciate your words and your concern!
Well done and cool report....way to get er done. I feel you on the snowline that creeps up on you and then boom, no going back and its on the snow for the night!
I'm certain that I'll be far less bold than Sir Beckey as we age.
Actually Fred was very calculated in many respects. For example, if there was a random cloud in the sky on a day calling for clear skies, he was known to point out his concern to partners " Whadya think about that cloud? Think its gonna rain?"

Passing rocks and trees like they were standing still
hyperbole stokes our egos to think we've done something extreme and beyond what other are capable of (that's not true, others are just as or more capable). Fred Beckey is known to have done this to deter others from his routes.
Fred Beckey is famous for doing the opposite of that. Many people think Fred's "class 3" is really class 4. I don't, but that's what I gather from reading reports.
Finally getting around to reading this whole thing. What a trip! I like your candid writing style. Great pictures too! Man, I'm tired just thinking about those long days you had. Way to get after it, keep it up.
