Did a loop in the Ancient Lake(s) area based on the 2018 "ragman and rodman" trip report https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8026880&highlight=ancient.
We started up at the Burke Lake area. First we went down to Dusty Lake, scrambled up the west end of the mesa, followed mesa east to gap, went down to Ancient Lake(s), up to waterfalls and then back up to car. There are a few scrambles on the mesa section.
Saw one rattlesnake.

Great report. Looks beautiful there with the flowers and waterfalls.
Regarding the second snake featured: This one looks like it could be a Pacific Gopher Snake, wiki photo here. And a list of Washington reptiles here.
Edit: Sorry for the thread drift. After looking more closely at the Wiki page of reptiles, it looks like that second one resembles the Great Basin Gopher Snake vs. the Pacific. ~z

Hard to tell from photo king snakes and gopher snakes have pointed tails rattlers not surprisingly rattle snakes have rattles. Picture looks more spotted than pacific rattlesnake.

Malachai... There are two different snakes in the photos. He definitely has a rattlesnake in that first one. I corrected my previous comment on the type of gopher snake. Sorry if I wasn't clear on this earlier. ~z

You are right I was referring to the second snake. I knew the first was a rattler.

Could someone please identify this flower? I saw it last weekend in the desert as well and was wondering what it was.

That’s a sagebrush mariposa lily. I love watching these come up in my yard here in winthrop. They won’t for a few weeks still. Quincy is way ahead of us up here.
There’s another, more common mariposa lily that’s white and all over the place right now (Methow; probably done in the Basin) but it’s less showy.
Sorry for the thread drift. That’s a fun loop you did. Nice pics.
