BPJ...as so many have said, I'm sorry to see your problems. I'd like you to keep in mind a quote from Robert Heinlein ( Time "Enough for Love) where he said,
"When the fox gnaws, SMILE!"
"Altitude is its own reward"
John Jerome ( from "On Mountains")

Tom,
I'm so sorry to hear that. This site has benefited greatly from your contributions. I have always valued your posts (even the ones I totally disagreed with). I really hope you'll be able to find some ways to keep in touch online and with the outdoors.

Hi, BPJ,
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your stories with us over the years. I'll definitely go back and reread them. But off the top of my head I recall when you first found your place in Cle Elum and were getting ready to close. How excited you were to have a wooded parcel away from the city, but still close enough if needed.
You were always good for snow reports in Kittitas County. I loved seeing your preparations for winter with the enormous stacks of firewood. I recall some of your nephew's visits and your backpack trips together. It's great to see outdoors lore passed on to the younger generation.
If you do find some technological means to stay active on the board, please do so. You have a lot of stories yet to be told. I have appreciated your presence here and wish you well.
Sincerely, ~z

Tom/BPJ,
That really sucks and I'm very sorry,
BUT please have hope. While your life will change, I would urge you to not be afraid of the change, but instead meet it head on with hope and determination.
Stay strong!
Yours,

Tom, I'm so sorry to read this and can only imagine how hard it is. One of my first hiking buddy's was born with retinitis pigmentosa and gradually lost his sight by the time he was 40. I reconnected with him years later and he told me he was still doing a lot of hiking, now with his girlfriend. I said, but you can't see. He said, I can hear, smell and feel. Stay strong. Patrick

Very sorry to hear Tom! I also struggle with low vision all my life. I wish you all the best and I sincerely hope you will find strength to adapt and still enjoy life. Vision is not everything. Good luck and stay strong!

I am sorry to hear this. I hope there is something that can help. Getting old sucks but the alternative isn't so good.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Tom, really sorry to hear about this. You have always been kind to new folks on the site. You have gone out of your way to help with ideas and gear to those who need it. The fact that those who disagree with you on other matters have taken the time to pass on good wishes is a testament to the person you are.

Tom/BPJ -- So sorry to hear this, especially from our most prolific poster (I think)! You contributions will be missed! And thanks to RumiDude for his insights and to Gwen for reminding us via example that we can post in larger font sizes!
