Substandard mountains are the reason for Greely's famous advice.

"What is the color when black is burned?" - Neil Young "We're all normal when we want our freedom" - Arthur Lee "The internet can make almost anyone seem intelligent" - Washakie

The White Mountains are notorious for horrendous weather in the winter. I bet that feels like a real mountain experience, regardless of elevation. It's not exactly along the coast and it's not mountainous, but my brother absolutely raved about a visit to Bruce Peninsula in Ontario situated on a bay off the main body of Lake Huron.
