Just got this in my email from WSDOT:
Quote:
EAGLE FALLS: Stop parking on US 2 We know people are anxious to get out and enjoy Eagle Falls this time of year. If you’re heading out to the area to recreate responsibly, please remember to follow the parking rules for your own safety and for those passing through. On weekends we’ve noticed, (and also heard from others), that some folks are parking illegally, leaving their vehicle over the fog line into the travel lanes. We’ve had temporary signs in place. Now permanent “no parking” signs will be installed in the area to clarify what’s off limits. Vehicles that are left blocking a lane of traffic may get a ticket from the Washington State Patrol and may be towed away. As a reminder, if you see a highway hazard, call 9-1-1.
and this Highways not safe places to park, camp
This is ridiculous

I wonder how many fatal vehicle collisions happen every year between Skykomish and the HWY-522 interchange.
There's an electronic sign going Westbound near Zekes that shows the number of days since a serious accident. I haven't been up there lately but had been driving it every week for years and I never saw it get above 45.

There are some keeper holes in that stretch.

Drove past this area today on the way out from Foss Lakes and WSDOT was all over the area, with no parking signs and the regular parking area closed off and work vehicles there. Nevertheless, people had simply shifted their dangerous parking to the areas just outside of the closure area and I saw one sizeable group walking along Hwy. 2 to access the falls, which were packed.

Drove by there about 30 minutes ago and there are about 20 cars parked exactly where the signs and cones were just set up this morning. Kind of like what happens on the Sultan Basin Road after the target shooters are run off. clown.gif

Jersey barriers. That's the ticket.

My roommate is not a hiker... she saw something about Eagle Falls on the news and decided to go on her day off. Media... 🙄🙄🙄

Take risks not to escape life, but to prevent life from escaping I may not have anyone rocking my world right now but, I don't have anyone messing it up either.

Drove by this weekend and now see what the fuss is about. Least they could do is make the speed limit 30 for that mile stretch while a solution is being worked. Yeah that would slow you down by a minute.

Drove by this weekend as well. One of the neighboring properties is now selling parking for $20 a car. People were parked all along the no parking area. Jersey barriers are really the only solution here.

parking and no parking paint has been applied whether this makes a difference or not is anyone's guess. Pouring rain last night still a lot of folks down there.
