Ray's book was was a game changer for me. The trails can be rough enough, why carry unnecessary heavy gear?
Good book, notwithstanding his fascination with corn pasta.
There is so many vendors of ultralight gear now, getting to base weights of under 14 pounds with full comfort isn’t really a challenge. There are a lot of trade offs (and cost) to get silly light around 8 pounds base weight.
