Greetings, I am looking for someone (male) who is interested in hiking the Bald Mountain trail. It looks like only around 14 to 15 miles but need to leave a car on each end so maybe two or three days to allow for any side hikes. I would prefer to go on a weekday and can be fairly flexible on the days.

If you're talking Bald Mountain near Ashland and Cutthroat Lakes, be aware that the trail hasn't been maintained in over 30 years and is essentially non-existent on the ridge.

Yep, the only portion of the trail that maybe left is from Ashland lakes to above Island Lake, after that its all a brush bash. They maybe a couple of blazes on trees on the switchbacks below Bald mountain, but the trail was gone in 2005.

I've been mulling that trip for quite some time. 3 days would be good to hang out there. I think it'd be kinda cool

Me too, and also fish East Boardman and Bald Mountain lakes.

Sounds like I may have a couple of takers? I am open to fish and can do three days in July. What days work for you?

Not sure, I plan to be in Idaho until at least 7-14 and I am not good at planning ahead, we shall see.

My buddy and I attempted this hike about 10 years ago. Going from ?Beaver Lake? to Bald Mountain. Lost the trail about three hours in along the ridge and got turned around something fierce. The ridge was full of trees and hardly any views. So not worth it.

FYI I went up to Bald Mountain today via this trail and it was easy to follow from trailhead to summit. Though... Ugh... I probably shouldn't have said that. This area might become the next Rampart Lakes if the sekret gets out...
Minor class 2 near the summit didn't give me any trouble either. The sun sure did though!

You went in via Ashland Lakes trail head and it was easy to follow? That's good news. I'm glad they worked on it!

Shocking actually if someone indeed did work on it.

I apologize, I didn't catch that condition. I entered via the Walt Bailey Trail.

Well, the Walt Bailey Trail needs a lot of work too (I think they have been doing work, but frankly I think it needs some serious re-routing); and yeah, hopefully it won't be overrrun; it's usually very busy though.

I've read that a few times. I apologize if this is callous but does it ring anyone else as ironic that the trail named after a famous CCC trailblazer (and even partially constructed by him in his old age) is frequently regarded as poorly routed?
