We saw a Mountain Beaver last friday when were up in the hills near Sequim picking berries lol. Haven't seen one in years. Kind of a cool little dude.

Saw a mountain beaver in our front yard once. Pro tip you do not want to see a MB in your yard😡

Came across a road kill long-tailed weasel Mustela frenata on my bike ride yesterday. Put him in a sack and buried it out back sandwiched between some wire mesh screening. Will dig him back up around Christmas after the carcass gets eaten and then retrieve/clean up the skull. You can always buy one. https://www.thetaxidermystore.com/all-products/weasel-full-skull-taxidermy-mount-for-sale-22263.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw9vn4BRBaEiwAh0muDE44EnDFM43WMz0LrEaJohDRqICL6aLvvEtp54hiD4iMbooj-UWs0xoCwgcQAvD_BwE

A few years ago I was driving around a corner on the North end of Whidbey Island and slammed on my brakes just in time to miss hitting a huge bull elk. He still lives there and has been named "Bruiser" by the locals Also on Whidbey, last summer a bear swam from Camano Island and then hung around before deciding to swim around the San Juan Islands before returning to Mt Vernon.

Mr. Collins: I used to have a weasel skull, but when I hung my skull collection up on the fence in the back yard, the squirrels chewed them all to pieces, destroying the the smaller specimens: weasel, coyote, dog, etc. Still have a big box full of skulls - mostly elk and deer - stashed in the garage. Are you a skull collector?

A bobcat hung around my backyard in Bellevue yesterday for about 15 minutes. It was waiting for rabbits that are frequent visitors. The bobcat sprayed a rock to mark it’s territory before moving on. My backyard is the southeast edge of Bellevue where it abuts Cougar Mountain park. We never put up a fence so it is my backyard but the bobcat's frontyard.

^ for the first time in over 20 years I've lived here, we've got bunnies hopping about out here in the north end.... ...the trade-off was hardly any raccoons or opossums this season, about which I have no complaints. up.gif

Ski, where are you located (general location is fine). That will be helpful to us.

The first time I summited Mt Baker in the late 1980's was under a lenticular with high wind and low visibility. My partner and I were walking side by side across the summit plateau when a filed mouse ran across our path in front of us and disappeared in the gloom.

Interesting! That is similar to reports of mice in Rainier's crater. As I theorized earlier in this thread I believe the little ones might be stowaways in climbers' packs. Or they were just hopelessly confused and off route. Who knows?

I thought that too. Clumsy hawk or eagle couldn't hold the little squirmer in its talons. You'd think the fall without a parachute would have caused a mousy heart attack. But possible! An unlikely occurrence of a critter might require an unlikely explanation.

I would be thrilled beyond measure to see a wild wolverine. Way better than all the gneiss and other rock and landforms I've seen in all my long life! (blasphemy for a geologist? 🤯) Not for this one. All creation is wonderful!
