More and more it seems maybe all outdoor recreational pursuits have gone the way of surfers and climbers. OCD narcissists, many. Still, it's rare to see hikers backpackers climbers reject requests for support in such a flippant manner. I'd say trail runners are the new kings and queens of MeLand. Enjoy your very important run.

OK, it's not like they were in any real danger, just a little spooked. And you weren't there, so don't know if they were like "omg we're so terrified pleeeeze help" or "ok cool whatever." I'm sure he would have helped if they were lying there bleeding or something. Actually, this is rocknclimb we're talking about, maybe I'm not so sure

On October 3, Ryan Montgomery, who grew up in Auburn, set a new speed record for an unsupported run on the Wonderland Trail: 18 hours, 49 minutes, 11 seconds. Unsupported, meaning he carried all his food for the run (about a 20 pound pack).
The other current record holders from attempts this year are Tyler Green of Portland (men’s supported), Kaytlyn Gerbin of Issaquah (women’s supported), and Alex Borsuk of Portland (women’s unsupported). Montgomery knocked off Kris Brown and Mark Hammond, who individually set the fastest mark for a men’s unsupported run Aug. 27 and Sept. 5, respectively.
FastestKnownTime.com, the official repository of such records, highlighted 10 “premier routes” nationwide expected to garner multiple attempts. The Wonderland Trail was the only Pacific Northwest entry.
“The Wonderland Trail is one of the most popular in North America and West Coast athletes see the Wonderland as a hot place to run,” Montgomery told The Seattle Times three days after completing his feat.
