It's probably time to reset the "pop up" to prompt for everyone to review and agree to the posting terms again:

http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8017231

I was recently lamenting the state of the internet and the trending vibe here as it seems most of the OG have gravitated to other forms of social media and/or hiking retirement leaving a far more dominant mix here of those with nothing better to do but argue.

I was on a hike yesterday at a semi remote location and ran into 1 other person.  They were headed in for 3 days.  We chatted for a bit from a distance and I eventually asked if they followed NWH.  Yes, they got a significant amount of their beta from this site and one of their favorite things to do in winter is pour over reports and come up with dream trips.  I introduced myself as Tom and the person replied, "for real"?  They pulled out their Inreach mini from their front pocket and said, I'm the one who bought your extra Inreach mini back in December.  I pulled out my Inreach mini from my front pocket and joked about how the 2 units were brothers.  Small world.  Made my day.  Despite all the bullsh## here, the site is still a valued resource to many.

People need to stop and think about what they want this site to be.

How’s this: limit each member to two posts per day in any one thread.  hmmm.gif

I've felt this way about horns in vehicles. But that's probably not something somebody from a rural area would have any perspective on.  clown.gif

Teach your children well

i can assure everybody that cascadetraverser and his wife have taught their children very well!  their 2 kids are some of the most well rounded and knowledge driven teens that i've ever met.  and... they love the outdoors enough to go on week long trips with their parents many times over the years.
i remember that specific wkend that they started.  it was a light rain/drizzly start in the mtns that shifted many different trips that i know of.

to many of the armchair QB's- no need to name call when you don't know this wonderful family

and agree with stefan, thanks for helping someone in a medical emergency in stehekin!

Any regulation of the height of a campfire is obviously impractical. Fires change in time and with fuel and conditions. A large fire is a necessity in a coastal downpour if you need any fire at all. On the dry side in summer a single match in tinder can cause extreme danger. I have experienced both. Unfortunately rubber rulers do not make for good rules. As wizzes white said about pornography, “I can’t define it but I know it when I see it”. The proper answer depends on common sense and discretion, commodities which are rare today.

I think this thread highlights some of the issues with internet communication.  When you post here treat others as you would a family member.  This community is family, or should be.  Would you go on social media and call out a family member publicly?  No, most would take it offline.  In other words use the PM feature if something bothers you.  Be constructive.  If that isn't productive and still warrants public discussion raise it in a generic thread.  One reason we implemented the no spray rule was to minimize situations where people stop posting after situations when things could have been better resolved using common courtesy.

The ignore button is working well for me. Unfortunately, I am on this site willingly. Now I am unwilling to even see the names of the same couple of people still spouting off. (You know, those older pompous blowhards I have seen mouth off on the site for the past few years.) I am sure CT has left this site, and I will now join him. Happy arguing!!  Please continue to isolate yourselves behind your computer screens! No mask would shield us from the venom you would speak in public. Hope to never meet some of you on the trails.....

I was going to say this earlier. It's really juvenile to create a public outrage thread when you can address something 1:1 via PM. I can't imagine CT will want to post another TR here, which is a bummer.

I looked at the pictures and it didn't look like there were the right kind of fuels in the area to get an inferno going good enough to burn down to Twisp, jump the river, and burn over to Okanogan and then head east to Spokane, then onward across Idaho to Montanucky.

Really, Fire Boys???   rolleyes.gif

Nice fish! up.gif

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
