Brevity is the soul of wit and even though a picture is worth a thousand words, eye candy is better than prose. Enjoy these late summer days while they last!
PS - If you have a WH&C sticker on your car, I would advise against parking at this TH

The shadows in your photos say it all.

There's quite a bit of animosity about that group in the local hiking community. Also I counted 13 cars at the TH for this hike last Fri. evening when I shuttled a neighbor back to their rig there. So I know the word's out, but if those folks start showing-up, they'll be parked all the way down the road

That backdoor is marked on Google Maps & WTA has a trip report page for it.
The R lakes will be, & have been, overwhelmed for many years. Backdoor or not. I just consider the backdoor route area as overflow parking from the traditional, other "R" lake trailhead parking lot

How bad were the bugs? (that place was the site of one my worst mosquito experiences in my life-- inside the tent for the night at 5 pm... Sacrificed my water bottle rather than go outside for the call of nature)...
Great pictures!

Same actually! Here's a photo of my arm after a dayhike to the lakes back in 2017.

I learned that day that citrus based repellents don't work in the PNW and switched to 99% deet immediately after. Never had a problem again aside from the occasional numb lips
