Took the shortcut via FS 4824-124 for a late afternoon hike up to FCM West. Trail is dusty but in decent shape overall. Flowers are done but there are plentiful berries. Early fall colors are starting to come in.
A new sign has been put in at the junction with the Silver Tie. Followed the trail up to 5200' before heading off trail in a N/NE direction up to the summit. Avoided the southern ridge and headed up a gravelly and grassy slope on the west side. Beautiful views up top. Refueled and watched a weather system come in from the west before heading down. Back at the car around 7pm.
You consistently pick great hikes. Or at least you made it look that way with your TRs.
Having been to the Thorpe lookout, that pic is very cool! It looks better right now from my living room than it did in person. Love that serrated backdrop!
