The resort is on the lake. You and your car are on Highway 20. So you must hike down to the lake, then back up afterwards. Once you hike down, then you rent the boat.

Back in the day we went in from Canada and launched at Hozomeen. But that was before frown.gif

Got it. All this talk of canoes and such, and then you mentioning that you have to hike down to the lake got me confused, thinking about my time in the Boundary Waters (Minnesota) where we sometimes had to portage the canoe up to 3/4 mile between lakes. But good to know Ross Lake Resort is right on the lake.

I've always wondered about putting a small motor on the canoe. How far can you travel with a gallon of fuel?

There are also electric (car battery-driven) trolling motors. i've had to use one a couple times on an aluminum fishing boat when the main motor died. It doesn't get you going fast, but might be an okay option for a canoe.

I get a solid 8 miles per fill up, at top speed. One fill up is a quart. I went 45 miles on 1.5 gallons total on this trip. Electric motors have a very limited range and the batteries are very heavy. My motor and the gas I used combined only weighs 40 pounds. I would like an electric set up for the numerous places that allow electric but not gas, like Waldo lake, Oregon. There is camping all long the shore, but circling the lake is 21 miles.
