Open map, zoom in, click map, follow link for official timing and other details. Or do Menu ==> Search and enter your address. Many areas (including Puget Sound lowlands) might have east wind gusts to 40mph. Generally for King County this is for Monday morning through Wednesday evening. I would not be surprised to see this bumped up to a red flag warning. The wind potential looks pretty concerning monday afternoon and tuesday for those of us on the west slopes of the cascades. Its been a little drier than normal... definetly not good. Hopefully not bad.

Even without any new fires it was pretty smoky yesterday. Not a great day for peak bagging! This was imported from California. You can read about it below...

I'm planning a 4 day trip for Thursday up by Glacier Peak. Do you think that fire danger would be a reason to not go? This seems like an extreme weather event, I'd hate to put myself in danger.

Fires are exploding across northeastern WA driven by high winds. Tonight this risk moves to the cascades, where tons of idiots are out and about with campfires for the holiday weekend. The fire risk is high for most of the cascades, and for the columbia river gorge and Tillamook area it is extremely high.

Ya, this big cold front is going to ventilate every fire in the mountain west and start 100 more.

Second attempt. The power went out when the other write up was ready to send. There are two fires that started near Omak. The Cold Springs fire is the monster and started last night. It may be at or past Mansfield by now. Luckily, the wheat harvest is in. This morning, I was up the street where there is a view and noticed that the sawdust pile area that has been smoldering since a fire went through earlier in the summer seemed to be smokier. Then I saw flames start, and off it went. The wind has been blowing out of the NW so Omak has been fairly smoke free. Here are a few photos I took this afternoon. This one shows what I've heard called The Casino Fire smoke with the Cold Springs smoke cloud barely showing at the top.
Another one with downtown Omak in the foreground.
This is the north end of the Casino Fire and because the flames are in such a straight line I wonder if there is a burnout going on? The flames are small and backing into the wind. A tribal housing area is upriver.
Heard the town siren go off three times this morning so I hopped in the truck and filled up the gas tank for just in case. Home Depot is taking in campers in their parking lot, the stampede and fairgrounds and volunteer are taking animals and people. A friend who has a wind gauge said there were gusts at 50mph this morning. It's still windy but not like it was. We're OK unless something starts upwind, and then I hope the orchards and irrigated fields will work as a buffer. Stay tuned.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

From reports on twitter, the big fire has been renamed. The hashtag is #ColdSpringCanyonPearlHillFire Looks like this: https://mappingsupport.com/p2/gissurfer.php?center=48.128343,-119.503784&zoom=9&basemap=USA_basemap&overlay=VIIRS_24_hours,MODIS_24_hours,Wildland_fire_name,State_boundary,NOAA_fire_weather_forecast,ESRI_roads_and_labels&txtfile=https://mappingsupport.com/p2/special_maps/disaster/USA_wildland_fire.txt There will be new satellite hotspot data later today and it will appear on the map the next time you open the map.

Yup. Its going to be a busy, nervous day and night for a bunch of people. Bunch of roads are closing across central WA due to smoke and blowing dust, crashes, holiday traffic, etc.

Just heard that about 80% of Malden in Whitman County is toast. Nearby Pine City got hit hard too. https://www.npr.org/2020/09/08/910578980/fast-moving-wildfire-destroys-80-of-small-town-in-eastern-washington-state
