I've inherited a painting made by one of my ancestors (Thomas Bamford) who lived in Victoria, BC starting in 1882. He was an prolific painter and painted a lot of landscapes, most of which are real places in Canada and throughout the PNW.
I'd love to figure out what mountain this painting shows - does anyone recognize it?

Looks like a not very accurate portrayal of Robson

When did Mr. Bamford do most of his painting? Google says he lived 1861 to 1941. Mt. Robson was first surveyed in 1893 and first climbed in 1913. Wikipedia says Robson was only approached by a "few intrepid explorers" prior to 1913 (when a railroad was built accessing the area).

It reminded me a bit of the views of Mt. Lougheed in Alberta, from the Trans-Canada Hwy. Also easily viewed from the CPR rail line, which was completed in 1885.

That's an amazing likeness that Michael has posted. Seems to be about the same perspective and distance as the painting. ~z

Thanks for all the replies so far - these are all great suggestions, it's fun to try and find a match! Michael, which peak is that in your photo?
