Went up to old railroad grade for Milwaukee Road today to walk friends dog. Wore one of few N95 masks. Good new saw nobody on trails or Tiger Mountain. It was truly weird sun was only a dim red glow to the East. Visibility was very low and quiet. Air dealt heavy and cool. Walked a mile or so before turning around. It reminded me a lot of an apocalyptic film half expected Denzil Washington to be walking down the road or Mel Gibson driving a Holden Interceptor. Have a bit of a headache now.

what elevation where you at? Do you know if it's true that the smoke doesn't linger above 4000'? https://cliffmass.blogspot.com/?fbclid=IwAR0nrdCSNwIkvHvAnyed9L3RXsvfA-tcXtF65yexVSIKLEezOlh5KYk1LzY This page says "there is a strong inversion (temperature increasing with height) below roughly 4000 ft and inversions act the like barriers that prevents the smoke form mixing vertically". But looking at satellite images, it looks like the smoke does run right over areas like the enchantments...

Also see https://wasmoke.blogspot.com/2020/09/gasp-how-much-longer.html?m=1. I don't think Cliff's post applies this weekend but could be wrong. Not going to try to find out.

Highpoint is between 400’-500’ above sea level. It looks like smoke is present at the level of all WA passes. A friend is driving to Yellowstone and said it is thick at least to Moses Lake

I didn’t realize timberline Lodge at 8000 feet has WebCams. Clearly there is smoke there http://www.timberlinelodge.com/conditions#webcams
