Way back on this thread there was debate on whether the winds really were 60 to 80 mph around Detroit. Posters pointed out that nearby weather stations showed that the winds never really got much above 30 mph. Per Portland weather man Matt Zaffino, after the power came back on Sunday at Timberline Lodge, they weere able to download the data for the wind gauge at the top of the Magic Mile chairlift (7,000 ft). It showed sustained gusts over 100 mph topping out at 106 mph. https://twitter.com/Zaffino/status/1305399545023660032 Not very close to Detroit, OR, and at a different altitude. But demonstrates the unprecedented nature of that wind event combined with the hot temperatures.

My friends lost their house. This was such a pretty valley. Not now. https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/2020/09/first-views-behind-the-fire-lines-along-mckenzie-river-shocking-and-numbing.html?utm_source=facebook&utm_campaign=theoregonian_sf&utm_medium=social&fbclid=IwAR1RO4KeBwfen3WC87eC4GAtJu4jZWDRr63ajuPkPkI-XbR-b4vG85nC0lw

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

The friends of mine who live in Talent had their wedding in that valley and we went rafting on the river. Luckily their home was untouched.

And my brother's stepson lost his house (and cat) near Blue River. He's quite handicapped and I don't have any idea what resources are available to anyone, especially him, so I sent some $$$ his way. The worst I'll likely have to deal with this winter is cold, lots of it, but I have a house. My response regarding any/every one who had ANYthing to do with starting these fires is not suitable for publication in a public forum. Even if it was the negligence of neglecting to the trimming of trees close to power lines. Now, back to lurking and thoughtful consideration of the state of affairs surrounding this whole topic...

Donations are being organized for Oregon victims at Oregon Live: https://oregoncf.org/covid/give/ through King Broadcasting, the Red Cross. I have received e-mails from Senator Merkley and Congressman Wyden also providing links.

More Breitenbush Hot Springs updates, with photos. Says they plan to rebuild lost structures this summer and hope to reopen next fall. https://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/2020/09/breitenbush-hot-springs-loses-half-its-buildings-to-wildfires-hopes-to-reopen-in-2021.html

If you hike or climb the Sierra, the Creek fire, currently 15 miles from Mammoth is apparently not far from Red Meadows and the Minarets/Thousand Island Lake. https://www.facebook.com/townofmammothlakes/videos/685327858759647/?__cft__[0]=AZVOpPUniIPxs7DhyAODds8wp7ZZ42ZHbHbYZy4Qs3ZlyzY8jOL1W0hWpbE86YhtkzltwLtFpSkyiqhSNi0u9d-up976euiV3NwJpF7vGjloZRUfWLcZ0c9-vEeacf1yLgBo5C7S6UBKqhEevgiyXEDcSIgMQCYNZ6OL__cPwrqj8oKtucQnwTnO_FSFS9vb2vpqP0oBRoh7SbIVzNdDgoGsqUE-jmkWQ2zrwWjv2TnyXw&__tn__=-UK-R The Castle Fire appears to be active in the vicinity of the beautiful Needles climbing area. Incidentally I looked this up because the Creek Fire (I think) is so active that flame can be seen on the satellite image.
