One thing I did a couple of days ago before it got really bad was to check mountain webcams. Unfortunately Hurricane Ridge went offline. Paradise looks fair to poor, Whistler is fair, Lake Louise looks poor to very poor.
I wish there was a webcam at Mt. Baker.

Tomorrow I am hitching up the trailer and heading east or SE somewhere. I don't know where. Somewhere where the air is clearer. I figure it'll take a couple days to find it.
According to one of the maps of colors, the air gets OK in an arc, beyond Twin Falls, ID and central Montucky.
I have no plans, maybe follow Lewis and Clark, maybe check out Wyoming. Maybe just head to Minnysoda even?
Otherwise, the tune of Nowhere to Run is stuck in my head.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I visited Lake Quinault this last Fri-Sun. It was very strange not being able to see across to the other shore... almost felt like being on the ocean coast with a great vast sea in front of me instead... minus the waves.
Looking south from the NE shore of the lake Looking SW, from the north inlet of the river into the lake

I would recommend Wyoming, since most of the smoke is going north of there I think. I did read a report of a foot of snow in the Winds. The Beartooths might be a good camping destination.

Has anyone been up high, say in the Pasayten recently?
What’s the altitude ceiling on the smoke - is it possible to get above it anywhere in this state??

We hiked to upper priest lake yesterday and while we were in the forest canopy, the smoke didn’t seem to be nearly as bad. At the lake shore it was thick.

Smoke forecast for Wednesday 11 am. Smoke in Whyoming as well, although not as bad. Best bet in WA seems to be along the coast. Although notice how the smoke starts to build again in the Olympics.

I drove to Salt Lake City and back last week. Nothing but smoke the entire drive.
Probably have to get over the Rockies to get some fresh air. Or maybe Arizona.

I was up above Stevens Pass picking berries today and the smoke really thinned out the higher I went.
A few hundred feet above the pass.

Higher up, I could actually see some real clouds, instead of smoke.

Berries abundant despite the smoke.

Right now the goal is to get out of this thick crap to less thick. Woke up with the cough I used to get when I had to ride to work with a bunch of cigarette smokers.
We are at 360 this morning which is an improvement from last night.
I have ONE hepa mask to wear while loading and hitching.

Someone pinch me, because I think I'm dreaming that it rained last night and the smoke has cleared this morning
