Great weather in da wind river range..except for the 100 yr. Storm last tuesday..after 15 hrs we were thinking of grabbing the gear..fI reword & heading to a cave because the tents were going to be shredded... Snow with 80mph plus winds...single digit temps..tons of trees down to photo.point.. Clear forecast this week... ANOTHER CLASSIC GNOMIEEE TRIP!! Oh & we had titcomb basin all to ourselives for the day ..thanks to the storm...way more impressive then any pics... And ^^^^ another one I am glad that I missed! shakehead.gif

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

Believe it or not, it made its way to PA. It's a hazy sunshine today as a result of the smoke from the fires. Stay safe out there!

went on a long-planned trip to the Mt Baker area this week and was absolutely shocked to get nearly smokeless weather and even blue skies on a hike to Lake Ann yesterday! Everything to the south was hazy but the north was very clear. Went back today hoping to do more hiking and the smoke was back with a vengeance - couldn't even see Baker or Shuksan from Artist's Point

Exact same spot, today at 10am

My buddy Rick is a heavy smoker. Normally he steps outside to smoke but recently he has started smoking indoors as a means to avoid the poor air quality outside.

Some folks are driving a thousand miles to get closer to get right next a shovel handle length from the smoke. Then they’re going to quarantine for 14 days away from their families once the cross the border on the way home. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/bc-firefighters-oregon-wildfires-2020-1.5727775

Keep Calm and Carry On? Heck No. Stay Excited and Get Outside!

This from the Department of Ecology, State of Washington through 9/16 (all of Washington now except NE and much of the West Coast is now enjoying good air quality.)

Air quality index here has dropped from 260 at the peak to 6 this morning. It's been moderate the last couple days and fell off a cliff last night. Asthma kitty has been depressed at not being allowed outside all month, she's patrolling somewhere as I write this, protecting us all from mice and birds.

Could it be fire places in the neighborhood? I'm not smelling smoke a bit south of you. The sensors all show good sure quality except one in Ravenna which is probably malfunctioning. https://www.purpleair.com/map?opt=1/mAQI/a10/cC0#10.37/47.6163/-122.352

I don't really smell it now. Was noticeable around 9 or so. I suppose it could've been from fire places in homes?

Smoke returns to Washington State on Wednesday. Blowing up from California. Does not look nearly as bad as previously, but the forecast I am looking at is only goes Wednesday morning. If you are looking for clear skies and clean air, get out tomorrow. Vertically integrated smoke 5 am Wednesday:
Near surface smoke 5 am Wednesday:

Dammit. I was afraid of that. Nice stretch of warm October weather, couldn't get away without smoke...

I can see the smoke approaching us from the west and southwest right now. The sunset is murky over the Olympics tonight. ~z
