I didn't go out much in the smoke, I know a lot of people didn't let it stop them, and I've seen some really cool photos of our mountains in the smoke. We have a lot of creative people in here, and some of you have used the smoke as an element in your photos, to make them look dramatic and otherwordly. October is yellow month in the nwhikers calendar, only a larch photo can win; I'm wondering if September is going to be smoke month.

This was on Monday, when the Cold Springs Fire was moving right along--Mansfield bound, and then the sawdust pile smoldering area from a July fire had blown up and threatened the casino. Eventually, it would burn up the former Omak Wood Products mill and spot across the river where the fire crews really hit it hard and stopped it from heading into another Omak suburb.
Smoke pictures? Easy.
In the following, I was trying to show the whiter, puffier, humongus Cold Springs fire smoke column, which by this time was on its way to Mansfield, poking up behind the casino fire.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

September, North Cascades. Sunrise with smoke. I call that one on the right Owl Tower, but it doesn't have an official name.
Later in September. Sloan looks so ominous from this angle. Not a great shot but a great looking mountain. With smoke.

Some extra color
Some silky pastels
Some bad air for the task at hand...going from Cameron Basin over Grand Pass down into Grand Valley and then back up to Obstruction point.
My lungs still hurt from that one.

Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.
