In quest for autumn color I went for an an area new to me South of Glacier Peak. Cady Ridge trail to the PCT and Lake Sally Ann-my home for two nights. Two other people were camped there the first night but I had the place to myself after that. Haze and smoke unfortunately obscured distant peaks. The most scenic day hike to Kodak Peak with insane autumn colors and unlimited blueberries was the reward for the steep rocky trail and long drive from Seattle.

Those colors are absolutely stunning! I was wondering if the berries were past prime yet, but it looks like they are still going strong. I have to get up there ASAP and pick. I’ve been stockpiling berries like a squirrel but my supply is already dwindling, they just taste so darn good!

Nancyann, the blueberries were so abundant, just putting out your hand while hiking you’d end up with a handful. As I found out, they pair quite well with string cheese. 😋

Despite the plethora of fall colors and larchy goodness being posted this week, your fall colors may be the most impressive, vibrant and abundant, BarbE! What an excellent selection of location.

So with all those bluebs, you might have added to your yearly bear total? Oh wait, with many bears the bushes wouldn't be so loaded!

Good stuff. Mtn Climber & myself were at Lake Sallyann on Sunday with a quick scramble of Skykomish. The colors & berries were stellar up there for sure.

When asked "Why do you climb"? Simply respond "Why don't you"?

Stunning, BarbE. Larches are nice but those reds steal the show.

WOW. I love that area but have only been in early September before there were fall colors. If a person was to do a day hike on Cady Ridge, would there be fall color? It sound like you come out into meadows at 3.5 miles?

Yes, once you reach the ridge, you’ll find autumn colors and pretty soon views of Glacier Peak. Approximately 6 miles to the PCT and lots of colors heading North.
