Looking for the best route up to it via Dutch Miller gap. Looking at a gradient map, the route up the outlet stream looks questionable and taking on all that brush bashing seems even more unpleasant if I had to turn around. If anyone would be willing to Message me, that would be much appreciated.

We did this in 1987, notes show we left the dutch miller trail after crossing a talus slope.
Climbing to the right of a 4000' knob reaching a spine of ridge to the right of outlet stream.
Somewhere on the climb we came across the switchbacks of the old trail which we followed for the most part.
Worst part of the hike was the 26 miles of the worst dirt road in the state.
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.

The fish there are too hard to catch. Might not be worth it.

That was my favorite part. I took an old beat up '82 Datsun hatchback up there one time. Passengers had to exit the car at a couple of spots to get an inch or so of better clearance. Did a couple of huge puddles at speed to glide across. Felt like I had accomplished something monumental just getting to the trailhead.
That was a November adventure in like '92 or there abouts.
Since I have no expectations of forgiveness, I don't do it in the first place. That loop hole needs to be closed to everyone.

A good friend came back from a hike and found his vw bug stolen... but found it upside down off the road on the way out.
Much better these days.

Don’t you worry your pretty little head, Randy. Just doing surveys for future fry. There’s no more GT in that lake anyways.

I don't remember it being bad at all just going up the drainage. And the fish were hard to catch.

This TR from Pack & Paddle is only 27 years old -- should still be accurate (except for the gated road) with as little traffic as Crawford gets. With a GPS you shouldn't have their trouble following the larger creek (actually named Crawford Creek) that comes down from the big basin below Wild Goat Peak.
1993 Crawford Lake
And a 17 y/o thread here

Following the spine adjacent to the outlet stream is NOT the way to do it.
The line drawn on that map is NOT advised.
Been there three times. First two times came up from DMG/Middle Fork trail. Third time came from the North and exited via the outlet route on the advice of some hikers we ran into previous to our arrival at the lake. We knew there was another decent route but figured if they said the outlet route goes, it must not be too bad. It was bad. Very brushy and hard to stay on the "spine" as terrain and vegetation kept pushing us off to one side or the other.
There is a much better route. PM inbound shortly.
