The original and always my favorite 007. Growing up in the sixties, Ian Fleming books were our “Harry Potter” escape novels and movies of the time for early teen boys. frown.gif https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-54761824

I'll have a vodka martini tonight...shaken, not stirred, in remembrance.

A matter of taste ofc, but I don't think anyone could argue he wasn't at least the 3rd or 4th best Bond, after Roger Moore and Daniel Craig. I'd say his best role was the Russian sub skipper in THFRO, and the worst was as himself, describing when a situation "merits" slapping a woman.

Oh, no. Sean was #1, and Daniel Craig easily #2. Roger Moore? yeah, maybe 4 or 5.... huh.gif

"I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong about hitting a woman- although I don’t recommend doing it in the same way that you’d hit a man. An open-handed slap is justified if all other alternatives fail.” – Sean Connery !$@& this guy 100%

I began to appreciate Sean Connery as an actor once he stopped doing James Bond, and after seeing him and Michael Caine in "The Man Who Would be King." I also enjoyed two of his lesser known films, "The Name of the Rose", and "Five Days One Summer" - that one not so much for the plot, but I loved the mountaineering cinematography and re-creation of 1930's era climbing.

Leaving this open for now but if it drifts to commentary on his controversial statements it will be locked.

So ignoring his awful abuse toward women is ok while we celebrate his triumph in film? Nah, the guy was trash as a human, and deserves to rot in the pit of hell.

I'd say nothing wrong to point out his flaws or shortcomings, but beyond that discussion does not pass the litmus test any more than it would if he were still alive.

Like a lifetime of advertised abuse toward females?

Or many other examples. Just turn on the TV or go to social media.

Didn't realize they had my endorsement. Yes, Connery was a "bad guy", or is someone who defended abusing women for decades actually a good guy?

Hey rocknclimb, How are you neighbor? I don't think anybody here condones "dinosaur" behavior. I know that society and most of us have evolved from the sexist behavior that existed and was promoted when I was younger. Anyway, Sean Connery was kind of an iconic figure at that time and proved himself beyond 007, to be an excellent actor. I thought that the only controversy here would be the best actor to portray Bond. Cheers.

Hey neighbor! My apologies for the hijacking of this thread and will step away. Some frustrations come from the social media world of the "So sad he died" when many have no clue of his life away from cinema. Abuse is a HUGE factor in my life, and I just can't defend any human who actually believes that action is ok, especially against women & children. Just cause he passed today does not give immediate forgiveness to his past transgressions. Agree, the dude was a great actor. Thoroughly enjoyed his films on rerun as I grew up. Never good when someone passe away, but I do stand by earlier feelings and quotes. Cheers neighbor...stay healthy, safe, and keep on hiking!
