Much less snow than two weeks ago, I hiked the ridge spending a clear nearly full moon night by a frozen tarn east of Alta. On this warmish sunday am, there were 5 cars at the TH. Ran into Snowdog w/o her dog heading to the lakes. The rock slab was dry and easy to cross unlike the last time w/ 6" snow. There was some snow on shady N sides, but mostly snow free. Hikers at the R lakes, one guy was skinny-dipping into cold water though very briefly. I continued to Alta following a group of three, then another group of two came up as I was leaving the summit.
to Alta:
me, thx Mike
more summit views:
Spent some time wondering around the upper tarns looking for a camp w/ views. Had a lot of time partly because I was not quite adjusted to the time change
Peaceful morning, nice to just wonder around.
From the saddle:
Alta summit ?

my red tent on upper left
Lunch at Lila Lake:
Back to Rampart Lakes:
Took the high route like the last time, met a couple coming down the gully mid afternoon. They were the first ones I saw this Mon. Not quite sure which way they were heading out, seemed a bit late for either TH...
Saw another couple starting the rock slab by Lilian, again seemed a bit late...
This might really end up my last hike trip of the season. Ready for my 2nd ski trip this weekend!

Which direction is this? I though I knew these parts well, but that seemingly inaccessible high point doesn't ring any bells.
Fantastic photos all. I love the one of the iced over lake with Hibox in the background.

puzzlr, The peak was in NE from the saddle. It appears to be Bears Breast on a map, but I'm not sure, can't find any photo from SW....

Bearsbreast is the set of bumps barely visible above the Four Brothers, in between Hinman and Daniel. I can't figure out what the big rock peak is. The long vertical wall below it should be obvious too. I give up.

That's got to be it, given it's position relative to Daniel. That's pretty spectacular. It doesn't look anything like that on Google Earth. And I didn't have any photos of the Citadel from the east.

Nice photos, Kenji. However, you have the date in your title wrong. Your trip was on November 1-2. By November 8, everything was covered in snow.

Thanks Matt, the date now corrected I actually planned to ski on Sun 8th, but they never opened the gate because of the search activity. We ended up doing a hike up to Eagle Peak, which was pretty enjoyable.
